Nicole Skulitz and Robyn Bergman have chosen Hudson’s to host their big day in July 2020.
Nicole is a special needs teacher all the way from New Jersey, USA and Cape Town local Robyn is an online safety specialist. They are so excited about the amazing wedding they’re planning that we couldn’t resist asking them to tell us more![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
How did you meet?
Robyn: I was working on the Carnival victory cruise ship. Nicole signed on a few days before my birthday. The day of my birthday we were rehearsing for “Cat in the hat”. I was Cat and Nicole was my bouncer. That day I invited her out for my birthday drinks but she was super shy so she didn’t come. However, a few days later, my best friend signed on to the ship and Nicole was her roommate… the rest was history!
What’s your engagement story?
After less than two months together on the Carnival Victory, Nicole was sent to work on a different ship. Two short months after that I began planning a trip to visit her in New Jersey in late November. Little did I know that by September she had already picked out the perfect ring and started planning a proposal. When I arrived we spent time with her family and sightseeing. I had never been to NYC but it was somewhere I’d always dreamed of visiting. On 15th December we caught a train into NYC with a few close family and friends. We took a horse ride around central park, visited Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and finally ended up at the Rockefeller Center where we watched a light show on the Macy’s Building on 5th Ave. We all went to take photos in front of the big Christmas tree. Nicole said she wanted to take one of just us. She proceeded to get down on one knee and pull out a purple ring pop! The only words she said were “I have this one too” as she pulled out the real ring.
How did you go about venue hunting?
Nicole arrived in Cape Town and we started our venue process during the first week. I had five venues on my lists so we made a road trip out of it. Ours is a destination wedding. Lots of people are flying from all over the world to be part of our big day. I made sure to have my girls with me because even though it’s our day, that moment when you find the one is almost as tear jerking as when you say yes to the proposal! When I walked into Hudson’s, I knew. My heart skipped a few beats and the tears came rolling down my cheeks! It was a pretty epic moment – one that I will never forget. Not only is Hudson’s beautiful but they do everything for you which makes life so much easier.
Do you have any advice for couples still looking for venues?
Choose the one that makes your heart skip a beat. Choose the one that makes life easiest for you. Adjust your budget for the perfect venue because your surroundings create the atmosphere.
What part of your wedding are you most looking forward to?
The three aisles that we’re planning for our ceremony, seeing Nicole in her dress for the first time and all the surprise elements. We have live music and drag queens performing. It’s going to be incredible!
