Airline pilot Okkie Oosthuizen and medical doctor Mylennie van Straaten recently said yes to the venue when they booked Hudson’s for their wedding.

The big day is set for 2nd November 2019. We grabbed the opportunity to hear more of this gorgeous couple’s story.

How did you meet?

Mylennie: Okkie and his family had already been living in Dubai for three years when my family moved there in August 2008. We first met at the Afrikaans Church and stayed friends over the years. Both of us moved around, living in different countries and cities… until one of our many chats over coffee turned into so much more! We started dating at the beginning of 2018.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]What’s your engagement story?

We have a family tradition of watching the sunset on the beach while eating pizza. When my family were visiting from Dubai at the same time as Okkie’s from Tzaneen I thought that is was a great idea to do the sunset pizza thing. Little did I know that I was playing into Okkie’s hands by organizing my own engagement! So on Bloubergstrand on 23rd December with a beautiful sunset in the background and both of our families in attendance he asked me to be his forever. And I said yes!

How did you go about venue hunting?

One afternoon about two months before Okkie proposed I was scrolling on Facebook and came across an advert for a movie that Galileo Open Air Cinema was showing at a wedding venue in Stellenbosch. I was curious and followed the link to Hudson’s page. Okkie came to visit that afternoon and caught me red handed – googling wedding venues! After the engagement first on the list of venues we wanted to visit was Hudson’s. We went for lunch and immediately fell in love with the loft venue. We didn’t even go to look at any of the other venues.

Do you have any advice for couples still looking for venues?

Do your research wisely. Find a magical venue that speaks to your heart. But also look closely at what is included and excluded. For us it was important to have a venue that included as much as possible.

What part of your wedding are you most looking forward to?

Marrying my best friend with all our family and friends present, even the ones from far – America, Dubai, Portugal and England!

We are delighted to be hosting Mylennie and Okkie’s big day. To get excited about planning your wedding with us get in touch to schedule a viewing.
