We asked our favourite balloon expert (what a title!) I am the owner of Balloons & Bubbles which was originally created in 2014 to provide a party décor and planning service. To distinguish ourselves from other party providers we started taking a keen interest in balloon décor. We developed these skills through training programmes and learnt from the world’s best decorators. In 2017 I took the balloon artist certification exams which were assessed by judges from the UK. They tested us on both practical and written pieces. I was extremely proud to receive the CBA certification. The rest is history! 80% of our business is now balloon decoration. We have many valued clients both corporate and private. We provide balloon design solutions for every occasion.
How long have you been working in the industry?
Five years.
What price range is your service?
Price start from as little as R11. We have beautiful balloon décor to suit any budget from single helium balloons to more decorative, trendy pieces like candy table arches and picture perfect balloon backdrops.
How many weddings do you estimate you have been involved in?
More than 100.
What is one of the challenges you face in your industry?
The misconception that balloons are like plastic and therefore harmful to the environment. All of our latex balloons are 100% natural and 100% biodegradable. We also aim to educate our clients about the safe and responsible handling of balloons and their accessories.
What makes your service unique?
I am very proud to be the only CBA (Certified Balloon Artist) – the worldwide industry standard for balloon décor – in the Western Cape. This means that I have the necessary training, knowledge and skills to provide clients with stunning, professional décor tailored to their requirements. We only use the best quality balloons to give your wedding or event the WOW factor.
Tell us about a wedding that you remember and why…
We provided a ceiling balloon cloud installation for a 20m by 30m ceiling. That was definitely our most memorable wedding. It was the first time we had done a cloud installation of that magnitude but with careful planning and lots of preparation we executed the installation impeccably, on time. It was a real show stopper. I’m sure the bride, groom and guests will remember it forever!
What piece of advice would you most like to offer brides and grooms reading this?
Balloons can be a great addition to your wedding décor and a cost-effective too. Think outside the box and make your wedding completely unique. Nothing says ‘celebration’ like balloons!
