Her bridal gown is usually the very first thing a bride envisions – sometimes before there is even a groom and often from as early as childhood!

The perfect dress will make you look and feel incredible. Meet Cindy Bam, the lady ready and able to make the magic happen.

Tell us a little more about your company and the service that you offer…

I’ve channeled my passion for design into the world of bridal and evening gowns, working from my studio in Long Street, Cape Town. I create luxury gowns that evoke drama and glamour of past eras whilst still maintaining a modern edge.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In addition to my bespoke design service, I offer a range of unique, ready-to-wear bridal gowns, available for purchase or hire. Clients have the opportunity to try on various styles to see what best suits their figure and personality. All clients are assured of my personal attention throughout the process and can always look forward to a warm welcome and a relaxed studio environment.

How long have you been working in the industry?

I have been designing as long as I can remember. At the age of 13, I wrote myself a letter and detailed exactly what I wanted to be when I grow up. On that list was that I wanted to be a designer. After finishing my studies in 1993, I moved to France where I studied French. I returned to South Africa in 1996 and moved to Cape Town. It was my own marriage in 2002 that ultimately inspired me to start my own couture label and to specialize in bridal couture.

What price range is your service?

Our ready-to-wear range starts at R12000 for purchase or R8000 for hire. For brides wanting us to create a unique piece or who maybe don’t know what they want, I offer consultations at a fee of R350 on weekdays and R450 on weekends. These couture gowns begin at R20000.

Having your wedding dress custom made by a designer is a thousand times better than buying mass produced imported gowns. One of the most important benefits of having a custom wedding gown is that it is made, from first to final stitch, exactly to your body shape. The designer will work with you to bring out your best features while keeping to your style. At the end of the process, you will have the most flattering dress that you have ever worn.

How many weddings do you estimate you have been involved in?

A few thousand for sure!

What is one of the challenges you face in your industry?

The main challenge is labour. Our industry doesn’t have skilled seamstresses and I have to train all of my staff from scratch. Our transport system is another challenge. My staff struggle to get to work on time.

What makes your service unique?

My work not only reflects my love for design but also celebrates the sensuality, romance and spirit of women. I absolutely love seeing how my designs make my bride glow, how she admires herself, and how she doesn’t want to take her special gown off. It’s my job to make her look unbelievably beautiful and I love doing it.

We use only the very best fabrics sourced from around the world. My designs are known for their superior fit with a modern vintage touch. Every gown is hand-made and lovingly crafted by an in-house team of seamstresses and beaders who share in my culture. We strive for exceptional quality in product and service.

Tell us about a wedding that you remember and why…

It’s hard to say because there are so many! Every bride has a different personality and each journey is so unique. I remember a bride with a seven meter long train on her dress. We had to move furniture to do her fittings. Then there’s the brides that pick up lots of weight and we just have to make a plan. I remember quite a few clients crying tears of happiness and excitement and that just makes all the hard work worth it.

What piece of advice would you most like to offer brides and grooms reading this?

Shop with an open mind. First try on the dress of your dreams. But then also step out of the box and try several other silhouettes. Try on the dress you always thought you never would. You might well be surprised. It’s not unusual for a prospective bride to arrive wanting a sleek, modern sheath yet find true joy in a ball gown.

For the groom: Remember to compliment your bride on how she looks during your speech. It took hours of planning!

What is your service mission statement?

With all of the modern, vintage and traditional styles available, searching for the perfect wedding dress might feel like going on a treasure hunt without a map. Take heart and put yourself in my hands so that I can enhance your natural beauty and create the ultimate look for you.
